For the Valencia family, Colombian cuisine is more than food — it’s a tradition rooted in culture, family, and community.
Café de Colombia Restaurant & Bakery is a proud mother-and-daughter owned Colombian restaurant located in the heart of Reading, Pennsylvania.
Owner Rubi Valencia has called Reading home for over 20 years, and opening this restaurant is the realization of a lifelong dream. Continuing a family tradition of Colombian restaurants, Rubi and her family are passionate about sharing authentic flavors, warm hospitality, and the vibrant spirit of Colombia with the community they love.
At Café de Colombia, our goal is simple: Serve delicious, authentic Colombian food while creating a welcoming space where friends, families, and neighbors can gather and feel at home.
Meet our founders
Rubi Valencia
founder
Rubi was born in Risaralda, Colombia, and dreamed of creating a restaurant that celebrates the flavors, colors, and culture of her home country. With no external funding, she faced many challenges before finally finding the perfect location and signing the lease for an empty storefront in early 2019. When the world shut down later that year, the opening was delayed for nearly a year—but Rubi persevered, and since opening her doors, she has never looked back.
Karol Valencia
founder
Karol was born in Manizales, Colombia, and remains deeply connected to her Colombian roots. While she currently lives in Los Angeles, she supports Café de Colombia by managing social media and assisting with administrative work. Through her role, she helps share the restaurant’s story and stay connected to the family business and community in Reading, Pennsylvania.
